Most classic cars that are neglected for years rarely return to the road, but this 1950 Studebaker Champion is an exception.

This particular Studebaker was left abandoned and exposed to the elements for a lengthy 40 years. Now, however, it’s getting a new chance at life.

During the restoration process, the team found an unexpected surprise hidden within this vintage car. In a recent video by YouTube channel bah53, this 1950 Studebaker Champion appeared to be in a dire state.

It had partially sunk into the ground and was blanketed with dust and various other debris. Clearly, it was in rough shape.

Time is often harsh on classic cars, a fact demonstrated by other abandoned vehicles, such as a 1974 Chevy C10 truck. Or the pair of Mustangs whose paint had worn away after spending 40 years in hiding.

Similarly, four decades of being stored in a barn had left this Studebaker in far from ideal condition.

Rust and rot were present, but nothing beyond repair. The YouTuber tackling the project also shared a surprising discovery when they took a look at the interior.

Surprisingly, the interior was in relatively good condition, and they even found the gas tank still intact. In addition, they found the original 170 cubic-inch inline-six engine.

While these engines aren’t known for high performance, they’re celebrated for their reliability. After the Studebaker’s first wash in years, it was already beginning to regain its appearance.

Would it ultimately run perfectly again? That remains uncertain until the restoration is complete. At the very least, it would make a fantastic exhibit piece in a classic car museum.

After all, many cars in collections, like the one in Italy, aren’t driven anymore. If this Studebaker does eventually receive a full restoration, it will be a remarkable transformation.

On the topic of impressive restorations, there’s also a story of someone’s father restoring a Champion, making for a touching and wholesome tale.
