Have you noticed a Pink Cadillac De Ville Coupe cruising around town? Or perhaps a Cadillac Eldorado? Vintage and classic car expert Rukshan Munesinghe shared insights into the rare cars he owns and rents through his company, MY Classic Cars.
During a recent visit to his garage in Klang, Rukshan showcased some stunning vehicles from his collection.
The most eye-catching among them was a pink 1959 Cadillac De Ville Coupe, powered by a 390 cubic inch (6,384cc) engine.
This beauty features an automatic rear-wheel-drive (RWD) 4-speed gearbox and boasts a claimed top speed of 205 km/h.
That’s impressive for a car that weighs over 2,000 kilograms—more than double the weight of a Perodua Bezza, which is around 900 kilograms.
Interestingly, America’s King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley, also drove a pink Cadillac. However, his was a different model—the 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special. Elvis’ iconic pink Cadillac is now preserved in the Graceland Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.
This newer model comes with a more powerful V8 engine (500 cubic inches or 8,193cc) compared to the earlier 1955 version.
Among the other classic cars in his garage was a 1962 Ford Thunderbird that immediately caught our attention.
Despite its age, the Thunderbird is equipped with modern features such as power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, air conditioning, and an intriguing detail—a steering wheel that can slide 18 inches to the right, making it easier for drivers to exit.
“A lot of people are into classic cars these days. We do events and we import classics from around the world as well. We’re also a trader, and we do rentals for events like weddings and photoshoots.”
Can rented cars be driven by clients?
Unfortunately, no. When asked if clients are allowed to drive the cars, Rukshan clarified that self-driving is not permitted. Instead, the company provides a driver.
“If at all we allow self-driving, we will just give you 300 to 500 meters just for your video, and even then, we’re going to be very cautious because it’s not something you drive every day. Every car has its own characteristic,” he explained during the interview.
Classic cars retain or grow in value
According to Rukshan, classic cars either appreciate or maintain their value. What makes these cars valuable are not only their unique designs but also their rarity, as production of such models is discontinued. The older the car, the rarer and more valuable it becomes.
“It’s not a car you’re going to use every day. It’s going to be a car you collect. Some people buy a car just to park it in their house.
I have clients who want rare cars that don’t even move and just want to be able to see it when they open their garage or front door,” said Rukshan.
He also mentioned that some clients insist on owning a car purely because they like its appearance, regardless of whether it’s operational.
For many, classic cars are more than just vehicles—they’re a passion. Enthusiasts are often willing to spare no expense to own a car they truly admire.
