Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is renowned for driving fast cars on the track, but many might assume he has a similar passion for driving high-performance vehicles on the street.
While this may have been true during his younger years—when he purchased cars like the Pagani Zonda, Ferrari LaFerrari, and McLaren P1—the 39-year-old Briton has since moved beyond his earlier fascination with hypercars boasting four-figure horsepower.
In a recent conversation with Germany’s Auto Motor Und Sport, Hamilton revealed that he has stopped acquiring ultra-rare, high-end sports cars.
In early 2023, Hamilton, often referred to as the F1 GOAT, reportedly received two AMG One hybrid hypercars—one for himself and another for his father, Anthony—as a nod to his numerous championships powered by Mercedes.
However, it seems unlikely that he will add a Ferrari F80 to his collection when he transitions to the Ferrari team in 2025. According to him, his era of buying such cars has come to an end.
“The last car I bought was an AMG One, but it’s also my last supercar for the time being,” Hamilton said. “I’d rather spend my money on art now. I’m always discovering new artists, especially great Black artists.”
He further elaborated, “Modern cars all look a bit the same. It’s a bit sad.” Instead of contemporary designs, he now gravitates toward classic cars, appreciating their distinct sound and emotional allure over today’s often uniform aesthetics.
This shift in priorities doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of Hamilton purchasing a classic Ferrari to complement his future with the team.
Driving an old Ferrari Lusso, for example, could bring up his status in Italy. Imagine Hamilton living in the former home of Enzo Ferrari and racing for the legendary team—within six months, he’d likely be revered as a local saint. Maranello’s bells would ring once more in celebration.
