When discussing pickup trucks from the 1960s, our minds often gravitate toward the Ford F-Series and the Chevrolet C/K. Undoubtedly, these were the frontrunners of the era, but they weren’t the sole contenders emerging from Detroit. Dodge presented a formidable and dependable option in the form of the D-Series lineup.

Introduced by Chrysler for the 1961 model year, the D-Series succeeded the C-Series and remained in production through three generations until 1993, serving as a crucial link between its predecessor and the more iconic Dodge Ram.

The inaugural generation of the D-Series possessed all the essential elements to rival the F-Series and C/K lineup. It offered straight-sided and step-sided beds in various lengths, catering to the 1/2-, 3/4-, and one-ton markets, along with a choice of inline-six and V8 engines.

Additionally, the D-Series boasted several pioneering features. Firstly, it was the first pickup truck among the Big Three to introduce two rows of seating, with the four-door crew-cab variant debuting in 1962, following International Harvester’s Travelette by a year.

Secondly, it was the sole Big Three truck to offer a diesel engine option, featuring the Perkins 354-cubic-inch (5.8-liter) straight-six introduced in 1962, albeit with limited demand resulting in its brief tenure.

Thirdly, the D-Series can be considered the forefather of high-performance American pickup trucks. From 1963 to 1965, Dodge introduced a select few D-100 models equipped with the potent 426-cubic-inch (6.8- and 7.0-liter) Street Wedge engine, generating 365 horsepower.

Yet, my focus isn’t on these rare muscle trucks. Instead, I aim to highlight a remarkable second-generation pickup seeking a new owner. A pristine 1967 D-100, stored in a garage in Lake Forest, Illinois, exudes timeless appeal with its well-preserved condition, featuring vibrant green paint and gleaming chrome trim.

Among its standout features is a white top, potentially part of the White Hat Special package offered by Dodge in the late 1960s, adding a two-tone aesthetic. Although lacking certain elements like a white steering wheel and special wheel covers associated with the White Hat Special, it remains a captivating specimen of automotive history.

Moreover, the truck boasts a dashboard-mounted shifter, a rarity introduced by Dodge from mid-1965 through 1968. Paired with a 318-cubic-inch (5.2-liter) V8 engine, its precise specifications add to the allure of this classic vehicle, presenting a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to acquire a piece of automotive nostalgia.

With a mileage of 38,600 miles (62,121 km), this D-100 is available for $21,750 or the best offer, promising to enrich any collection or adorn local car gatherings with its timeless charm.
