The FIA has introduced a new design for the winner’s medals, just ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Traditionally, alongside the trophies awarded to the top three drivers and the winning constructor, F1 drivers also receive medals from the FIA to commemorate their achievements.
The concept originated from former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone in 2009, proposing a medal system where the top three finishers would be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals.
This idea materialized in 2022 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with the FIA aiming to provide drivers with a personal memento distinct from the team trophies, often retained by the teams.
As the sport celebrates 120 years of the FIA, the organization has unveiled a fresh design for the winner’s medals for the 2024 season. These medals feature the name of the respective grand prix and the race number, with the Saudi Arabian GP marking the 1103rd race in F1 history.
