GMC’s electric Sierra truck is getting a boost before it hits dealerships this summer. The top-of-the-line Denali Edition 1 will now be able to travel further and haul more weight than previously announced.
Some of its updates are:
- More Miles: The Denali Edition 1 can now go an estimated 440 miles on a single charge – 40 miles farther than initially expected. This puts it near the top of the electric truck range game.
- Towing Champ: GMC also bumped up the towing capacity to a whopping 10,000 pounds, 500 pounds more than before.
- Price Drop: Similar to its Chevy cousin, the Silverado EV, the Denali Edition 1 got a price cut. It will now start at a (still pretty hefty) price tag to be announced.
These improvements are similar to what Chevy did with their Silverado EV. Both electric trucks are set to arrive this summer.
Electric Truck Showdown
So, how does the Denali Edition 1 stack up against the competition? Here’s a quick comparison:
- Champion of Range: Currently, the Chevy Silverado EV 4WT holds the crown with an estimated 450-mile range, followed closely by the Denali Edition 1 and Silverado EV RST at 440 miles.
- The Rest of the Pack: Rivian R1T can travel up to 410 miles, GMC Hummer EV around 380 miles, and Tesla Cybertruck around 340 miles on a full charge.
Luxury Off-Roading with CrabWalk
The Denali Edition 1 will be a limited-edition luxury truck. It possesses features like four-wheel steering, including the unique CrabWalk system. This allows the truck to move diagonally at low speeds, perfect for navigating tricky off-road situations.
Power and Charging
The Denali Edition 1 packs a punch with two electric motors generating a combined 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in Max Power mode.
While official battery details are still under wraps, it’s likely the Denali Edition 1 will use the same setup as the Hummer EV and Silverado EV for its impressive range. This means it should be compatible with fast chargers that can add about 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
