General Motors has significantly ramped up the production of the GMC Hummer EV to meet the growing demand for this powerful and luxurious all-electric truck. Since its debut, the Hummer EV has garnered immense interest and high reservation numbers, prompting GM to enhance its production capabilities.
The Hummer EV, available in both pickup and SUV configurations, is produced at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Michigan. This facility, dedicated to the production of electric vehicles, recently underwent an upgrade to boost its capacity.
The factory, which was temporarily offline in December 2022 and January 2023 for these enhancements, is also tasked with producing other electric models such as the Chevy Silverado EV and the GMC Sierra EV.
In recent months, production figures have seen a notable increase. By May 2023, production hit 2,590 units, a significant rise from the 1,800 units produced in April. This upward trend continued, with 2,750 units produced in June and 2,439 units in July.
Since the start of regular production in October 2021, total output has reached 16,088 units, with more than half of these produced in the first seven months of 2023 alone.
The Hummer EV’s appeal lies in its impressive performance and luxurious features. The 2024 model introduces two new trim levels, the 2 and 2X, alongside the existing 3X trim.
The 2 and 2X trims are powered by a two motor system, with a single GM Ultium Drive motor on each axle. Production of these new trims is expected to start soon, further increasing the overall output.
The base model of the Hummer EV offers 625 horsepower, while the top tier models can deliver up to 1,000 horsepower. For off road enthusiasts, the Extreme Off-Road Package includes features like full underbody skid plates, LT305/70R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, and enhanced off road capabilities, making it a formidable contender in the electric off road segment.
To manage the high demand, GM has also adjusted the pricing of the Hummer EV. The price for new orders of the Hummer EV Pickup has increased by $1,600, with the entry-level EV2X version starting at just under $100,000.
Despite this price increase, the reservation list remains extensive, with over 90,000 units reserved as of September 2022. This production ramp-up is a strategic move to cater to the growing market for electric trucks.
The Hummer EV, with its robust performance, luxurious features, and eco-friendly design, continues to attract a wide range of customers, from off-road enthusiasts to tech-savvy urban dwellers.
As production scales up, more buyers will soon have the opportunity to experience the unique blend of power and luxury that the Hummer EV offers. General Motors’ increased production of the GMC Hummer EV is a direct response to its high demand.
With its powerful electric drivetrain, versatile configurations, and luxurious features, the Hummer EV stands out as a leading option in the electric truck market. As production continues to ramp up, GM is well positioned to meet the needs of a growing customer base eager to embrace the future of electric vehicles.
