The 2024 Ford E-Transit Electric Van: Enhanced Range and Expedited Charging

The electric Ford E-Transit van has faced criticism for its limited range, offering just 126 miles per charge (108 for high-roof models). However, Ford has responded to feedback from commercial and non-commercial EV owners, including those with the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E.

The 2024 model introduces significant improvements, with increased range and faster charging, while maintaining its power output at 266 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.

These enhancements primarily stem from a larger battery pack, which now boasts a capacity of 89 kWh, a 21 kWh increase from previous versions.

This upgrade translates to a 26 percent boost in range for low-roof models and potentially up to 32 percent for high-roof variants, with the low-roof E-Transit estimated to achieve around 159 miles on a single charge.

Furthermore, the new battery pack facilitates much faster charging. While the 2023 model capped out at 115 kW on DC fast chargers and 11.3 kW on AC chargers, the 2024 E-Transit is capable of 176 kW DC fast charging.

This enables adding up to 67 miles of range in just 15 minutes or reaching an 80 percent state of charge in approximately 21 minutes under optimal conditions. Additionally, the E-Transit will be compatible with Tesla Superchargers, with a complimentary NACS adapter provided to owners.

The onboard AC charger supports 19.2-kW charging with the Ford Pro Series 2 DC Level 2 charging station, reducing charge time to six hours and 11 minutes. Moreover, all 2024 E-Transits come equipped with Ford Pro Power Onboard, providing 2.4 kW of power for operating tools and equipment at job sites.

Available in various configurations, including two lengths, three roof heights, and three body styles, the 2024 E-Transit offers versatility for different cargo needs. With a starting price of $52,990, orders for the new model will open in the spring, catering to customers seeking improved range and charging capabilities in an electric commercial van.
