In a remarkable turn of events, Ford Australia has climbed to the second position on the country’s new-car sales charts, propelled by the outstanding performance of its Ford Everest SUV and Ranger ute. March witnessed a historic milestone for Ford as the Blue Oval achieved record-breaking sales figures, with the Ford Everest leading the charge by surpassing the 2000-unit mark for the first time in a single month.
The robust sales of the Ford Everest in March amounted to a staggering 2264 units, marking a remarkable 130 percent surge compared to the same period in 2023. This achievement eclipsed the previous monthly sales record set in September 2023, where 1984 units were sold. Notably, the Ford Everest emerged as the best-selling large SUV in Australia, outpacing its closest rival, the Isuzu MU-X, by a significant margin of 378 units.
Ford’s stellar performance with Everest not only secured its dominance in the large SUV segment but also enabled the brand to overtake Mazda and claim the coveted second spot on the monthly sales leaderboard.
With 8776 deliveries in March, Ford surpassed Mazda’s tally of 8246 units, maintaining its upward trajectory in the highly competitive automotive market. Despite Mazda’s year-to-date decline of 6.1 percent and Ford’s impressive 18.5 percent increase, Mazda still maintains a narrow lead over Ford in cumulative sales for the first three months of the year.
However, both manufacturers continue to trail behind the market leader, Toyota, which has already sold a staggering 56,238 vehicles in 2024, marking a significant 37.4 percent increase from the previous year. While Toyota’s Prado experienced a slump in March, with only 446 units delivered, anticipation builds for the arrival of the new-generation model slated for the latter half of the year.
Meanwhile, the Ford Ranger maintains its stronghold as Australia’s top-selling vehicle, with 5661 units sold last month and 15,761 units year-to-date. Remarkably, Everest contributed significantly to Ford’s March deliveries, accounting for a remarkable 25 percent of the brand’s total sales a new record for the nameplate.
As Ford’s flagship models in Australia, the Ranger and Everest have collectively dominated the market, representing nearly 90 percent of the brand’s deliveries in the first quarter of 2024. Further bolstering Ford’s sales performance is the Ford F-150 pickup, which secures the third position in contributing to the brand’s local sales.
With 616 deliveries recorded so far this year, the F-150 surpasses the soon-to-be-discontinued Puma small SUV, as well as the Transit Custom and Transit vans, solidifying Ford’s position as a key player in the Australian Automotive Industry.
