Ferrari seems to have fixed their problems with pit stops and strategies that troubled them before. They also focused on making their cars faster for the races in 2024. They even scored a 1-2 victory in the Australian Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, Mercedes has been struggling with its ground-effect cars for the third year. Their car, the W15, has been inconsistent, and in the Melbourne race, both their drivers, Hamilton and George Russell, had to retire. Hamilton’s car had engine trouble, and Russell crashed near the end of the race.
Even though Hamilton will be leaving Mercedes at the end of the season to join Ferrari, Toto Wolff, who manages Mercedes’ motorsport, says Hamilton isn’t worried about how well Ferrari is doing.
Wolff praised both Hamilton and Russell for their performance despite the team’s struggles. He said, “Lewis is doing the best he can in this situation. It’s frustrating that we’re not doing well, but Lewis isn’t focusing on Ferrari’s success. George is also doing his best and sticking with us as a fighter.”
Wolff also said that they’re constantly trying to figure out why their cars aren’t performing well. They’re looking at data and making decisions to improve.
Wolff mentioned that he’s careful about how he communicates with the team because he doesn’t want to add more pressure. He said, “As an Austrian, I’m direct in how I speak. But I’ve had to change that because adding more pressure won’t help. We’re trying our best, and I want to encourage the team, not stress them out more. We’re working hard to improve.”
