After the sprint race, Leclerc said he wanted to talk to his teammate Sainz about how he drove defensively when they seemed to collide at Turn 14.
Later, Leclerc said they talked and everything was okay. He didn’t share all the details because their discussions were private, but they resolved things.
However, Sainz said they didn’t get a chance to talk properly because of their busy schedule. They planned to talk later.
Even though there was a problem during the sprint race, both drivers wanted to focus on the main race. Leclerc will start sixth, and Sainz will start seventh.
Sainz said there was nothing unusual about what happened. They were racing hard, not just against each other, but also against other cars. He didn’t complain about it.
He tried to keep enough space between himself and Leclerc like he always does. He explained that after damage from Alonso’s car, his car’s floor was damaged, and there was dirt on his tires, so he couldn’t do much to avoid the situation.
Before the incident at Turn 14, Sainz was racing closely with Fernando Alonso. They made contact at Turn 7 and Turn 9. Because of the contact at Turn 9, Sainz got a 10-second penalty and three penalty points after the sprint race.
