With Norris out of the race, Hamilton had a clear path ahead of him. He managed to stay ahead of Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin in the beginning.
Even though Max Verstappen, the world champion, had a tough start, he pushed through and eventually took the lead to win the race. But Hamilton was really happy with his performance. He got second place, which was his best result of the season so far.
Hamilton said, “I forgot what it felt to be up ahead and was grateful for the moment. It was very fortunate with the rain yesterday, to be able to capitalize on that, as our pace [in the dry] is not strong enough to be qualifying up as high as that.”
He added, “But I made the most of it, had a great start, and then managed to hold off Fernando for a while and build a gap. Honestly, I found out a lot about the car, which has at least given us a direction on what to improve. I am so happy to be back here.”
