Formula 1 is launching a new streaming channel called the Formula 1 Channel. It will be available all day, every day for viewers in the United States. On this channel, fans can watch replays and highlights from Formula 1 races, as well as races from F2, F3, and the F1 Academy. There will also be classic races and documentaries to enjoy.
This new channel will be free to subscribe to, but it will have advertisements. It will start airing before the Miami Grand Prix, which is the first of three races in the United States on the 2024 calendar.
The Formula 1 Channel will be managed by F1’s partner, C15 Studio, and will be available on platforms like Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Freevee, and Pluto TV.
Ian Holmes, F1’s Director of Media Rights and Content Creation, says the channel is meant to enhance the viewing experience for American fans. It offers a variety of content to cater to different interests and aims to attract new fans to the sport.
The content on this streaming service will not overlap with ESPN’s coverage of Formula 1 in the United States. ESPN has the rights to broadcast Formula 1 until 2025. F1 also has its own streaming service called F1 TV, which is available in the US.
Because of these agreements, races will be shown on the Formula 1 Channel with a five-day delay.
F1 mentioned that creating this free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel is in line with current trends in television viewing in the USA.
Since Liberty Media acquired Formula 1 in 2017, they have been working hard to grow the sport in the United States. They’ve added races in Miami and Las Vegas to the calendar, along with Austin. They’ve also focused on marketing and social media efforts to reach more fans.
