Recently, a German magazine called Auto Motor und Sport said that Adrian Newey might leave Red Bull Racing. He reportedly told his colleagues that he wasn’t happy working there anymore.
After talking with the team, it’s said that he officially said he’s leaving, and now they’re figuring out the details.
Red Bull Racing is expected to make an official statement soon, maybe even before the Miami Grand Prix.
We don’t know the exact details of why Newey is leaving, but it seems like he’ll stay in his job for now and leave by the start of 2025 at the latest.
Newey apparently told the team why he’s leaving in a letter.
One big reason seems to be his relationship with the team boss, Christian Horner, especially after some problems earlier in the year.
Horner said in an interview last year that Newey’s role had changed, which didn’t make Newey happy. He felt like Horner was trying to make himself look good and downplay Newey’s role.
Newey’s wife even shared the interview on Twitter, calling it nonsense.
We’re not sure what Newey will do next. He might join Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren, or Ferrari, or he might leave Formula 1 altogether.
He’s not too keen on joining Mercedes because he thinks it’ll take too long for them to start winning again, and he’s not a big fan of Toto Wolff, the boss there.
Aston Martin is offering him a lot of money, but Newey might not be interested. He’s more interested in doing things he enjoys than making more money.
He used to work at McLaren before, and he’s good friends with the CEO there. But he’s not sure if McLaren has enough resources to be successful in F1.
Lastly, there’s Ferrari. They want him, but he’s not sure if he wants to deal with all the changes and politics that come with working there.
