After lots of talk about what will happen with Red Bull’s main technical officer, the team confirmed on Tuesday that Adrian Newey would be leaving.
Red Bull said Newey will finish up in the first part of next year and still help out at some races, like the Miami Grand Prix this weekend. He’ll also keep working on the RB17 hypercar project, which will be shown in July.
Newey has been with Red Bull’s F1 team since 2006 and played a big part in them winning lots of championships.
It’s not sure what Newey will do next, but Ferrari and Aston Martin might be interested in hiring him.
Newey said he’s been living his dream of designing fast cars but feels it’s time to step back and take on new challenges.
Christian Horner, the team boss, praised Newey’s work and said he’s been a big part of the team’s success. He said Newey is not just a great designer but also his friend, and he’ll be missed.
