It was announced on Wednesday that Adrian Newey, a design expert, will leave Red Bull after working there for 19 years. During his time, Red Bull won seven drivers’ and six constructors’ championships with star drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
Newey decided to leave because he was unhappy with the internal problems at Red Bull. There’s been a power struggle between different parts of the team, which led to tensions. This became public when there was an investigation into team boss Christian Horner’s behavior towards a female employee.
Zak Brown, head of a rival team, wasn’t surprised by Newey’s decision. He said Newey is a person of high integrity and that the situation at Red Bull was probably the reason for his departure. Brown thinks Newey won’t be the last big name to leave Red Bull because of the issues there.
Brown mentioned that McLaren has seen more job applications since Red Bull’s problems started. He believes people want to work with someone like Newey because of his success and the experience he brings to a team.
Newey will be available to work for other teams starting from March 2025. Ferrari is seen as a possible destination for him, but Brown doesn’t think McLaren will try to hire him. He’s confident in the team and believes they have what it takes to succeed without Newey.
