Earlier this week, it was announced that Adrian Newey will leave Red Bull after being with the team for 19 years. During his time at Red Bull, Newey played a big part in the team winning two championships with Sebastian Vettel and now with Verstappen.
Many people see Newey’s departure as a big loss for Red Bull, especially if he goes to another team like Ferrari.
Verstappen praised Newey for his work and wished he would stay. However, he doesn’t think it’s a disaster for Red Bull if Newey leaves.
Verstappen said, “Adrian was very important for Red Bull’s success, but his role has changed over time. Many other talented people have joined the team, making it stronger. I would have liked him to stay because of his experience and because he’s a great person to talk to. But I trust our technical team outside of Adrian. They have shown how good they are with the competitive car we’ve had.”
Verstappen doesn’t think it’s worth convincing Newey to stay. He understands if Newey wants a new challenge or to spend time with his family.
Verstappen knows that in Formula 1, everyone looks out for themselves. He would have preferred Newey to stay, but he also trusts the other talented people at Red Bull.
Verstappen concluded by saying, “I trust the team we have. They’re very good at what they do.”
