Under Stella’s leadership, McLaren has improved a lot since the tough start to the 2023 season. They only got 14 points in the first five races. But they made big changes to their car during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, and things started looking up. They were back to competing for top spots on the grid and podium finishes.
They kept improving, and in 2024, they’ve been consistently doing well. They’ve scored 96 points in the same period, which is 82 more points than last year.
Stella said their focus is on keeping up this rate of improvement. He thinks if they keep going like this, they could challenge Red Bull for wins in 2025. He explained that while Red Bull might not have improved much last year, they did a lot of behind-the-scenes work to make their car much better.
McLaren will introduce some updates at the Miami Grand Prix, but they won’t be as big as the ones they brought last season. Stella believes these updates will still make a noticeable difference if they work as expected. He said their job is always to keep making their car better, and they’re working hard on that.
He also mentioned that sometimes, things might not go as planned, even if their simulations and tests show positive results. But overall, he’s confident in McLaren’s progress and their ability to keep getting better.
