In June 2022, Red Bull’s Advanced Technologies announced their plan to create a special hypercar costing £5 million. This car, called the RB17, was designed by Newey, who is famous for his work in Formula 1. It will have a two-seat carbon fiber chassis and a powerful V10 engine with a carbon fiber gearbox. Only 50 of these cars will be made, all produced by Red Bull themselves.
The RB17 will be revealed to the public for the first time on July 12th at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will be displayed throughout the event. This hypercar continues the lineage of Red Bull’s F1 cars, even though the RB17 name wasn’t used for their 2021 car due to parts being carried over from the previous year because of COVID-19.
This car will also be Newey’s last project for Red Bull, as he plans to leave the Formula 1 team in early 2025. Red Bull’s boss, Christian Horner, expressed excitement about the RB17’s debut, calling it a symbol of engineering excellence and rarity.
At the launch event in Goodwood, Horner and Newey will be joined by former Red Bull driver David Coulthard and former Minardi F1 driver Patrick Friesacher. Red Bull will also showcase several of their F1 cars from the past as part of their 20th anniversary celebrations.
The founder of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Duke of Richmond, expressed his delight at Red Bull’s participation in the event, especially in their 20th anniversary year. He feels honored that Red Bull chose their festival to reveal the RB17 and is excited for fans to see the car along with other championship-winning cars and drivers from Red Bull’s history.
