Antonelli is new to Formula 2 racing this year, part of the Mercedes program. Lewis Hamilton is leaving Mercedes, going to Ferrari. Some say Antonelli might take Hamilton’s spot next to George Russell.
During the Miami Grand Prix, there were talks that Antonelli might replace Sargeant this year. The FIA got a request to let Antonelli race even though he’s not yet 18.
Sargeant hasn’t had a great start. His Williams car isn’t performing well. He couldn’t even race in Australia because his teammate, Alex Albon, wrecked his car and had to use Sargeant’s.
When asked about the rumors, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said they’re not considering it. Sargeant said he’s just focusing on doing his best.
He felt good during the Miami race. He’s been improving since Australia. He’s trying to be faster each race.
But in Miami, he got knocked out after a crash with Kevin Magnussen from Haas. That crash changed the race, letting Lando Norris take the lead.
Sargeant was asked if he talked to James Vowles, the boss at Williams, about keeping his seat. He said he talked with Vowles and his managers, but didn’t give details.
When asked if Vowles promised anything, Sargeant didn’t say much. He wants to keep those conversations private.
