On Sunday at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Vettel drove Senna’s 1993 McLaren MP48 to remember the Brazilian racer, who died 30 years ago at the same circuit.

To honor Senna, Vettel organized a track event on Thursday where drivers wore special shirts and helmets like Senna’s famous yellow design.

Vettel talked about safety improvements in Formula 1, saying they’re important but not happening fast enough. He mentioned a tragic weekend in 1994 when a driver died and how it led to changes for the better in safety. He also talked about another tragic accident in 2014 that made people realize the dangers of racing.

He praised Senna for inspiring people both on and off the track. He said Senna’s influence went beyond just winning races; he also cared about making Brazil a better place by supporting education and fighting poverty.

Vettel thinks it’s sad that Senna’s life ended too soon because he had much more to give, both in racing and in helping others.
