Scuderia’s boss Fred Vasseur hasn’t shared much about their talks yet, but before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, he hinted at what’s on his mind.
Even though trying to get Newey is still a work in progress and they have time, Vasseur knows it’s important to try to get the best talent in F1.
Even though Vasseur is happy with the progress his team has made, he knows they need to do more.
When asked about Newey, Vasseur didn’t say much. He acknowledged Newey’s success but didn’t give details about their discussions.
Talking about his plans, Vasseur said he’s thinking about both short-term and long-term goals. Right now, they’re focused on short-term goals, like improving the car for the current season. But he’s also thinking about the future of the team.
Vasseur believes in his team and the progress they’ve made. They’ve improved a lot since last year, but they still need to catch up with teams like Red Bull.
He knows they can’t expect big improvements all at once. They need to keep working hard, making small improvements step by step.
Ferrari recently hired two people from Mercedes, Loic Serra and Jerome D’Ambrosio. D’Ambrosio will be the deputy team principal, supporting Vasseur and bringing his experience to the team.
Vasseur had to talk to Toto Wolff, the boss of Mercedes, when he signed Serra. He says it’s part of the business, people come and go in F1 teams.
These changes are normal for a big team like Ferrari. People leave, and new people come in to help the team grow and improve.
