Alonso had a tough time during the qualifying session for the Imola Grand Prix. His car had some problems, and he ended up in 19th place. This came after a crash during a practice session earlier in the day. The team worked hard to fix his car, but it wasn’t enough to get him a good spot on the grid.
Since Alonso was already starting at the back of the grid, the team decided to make some changes to his car’s suspension setup. This decision meant that he would have to start the race from the pit lane instead of on the track.
Alonso didn’t seem too upset about starting from the pit lane. He mentioned that there could be some benefits to it, especially considering the narrow track and the potential for chaos at the start.
He said, “If we start from the pit, there are also some benefits as well. We saw the crash in F2 at the start as well. We need to avoid those kinds of things for the quantity of parts that we have on Formula 1 teams. So yeah, it could be an option.”
Alonso doesn’t expect to score any points in the race because it’s difficult to overtake at Imola. He mentioned that it’s one of the hardest tracks for overtaking, second only to Monaco. He believes it will be a tough race but hopes they can learn something useful about the car’s performance.
His teammate, Lance Stroll, also struggled in qualifying, finishing in 13th place. This indicates that the upgrades Aston Martin brought to Imola might not have been enough to keep up with the other teams in the midfield.
