Sergio Perez didn’t have a great qualifying session, missing out on the top 10 by a tiny margin. He started the race on hard tires, hoping for a safety car to help him catch up, but that didn’t happen.
During the race, Perez did better than some other drivers but still finished in eighth place. He said it was a tough race and they knew it was the best they could do. They were hoping for a safety car to change things, but it didn’t happen at the right time.
If a safety car came out around lap 28, Perez might have had a chance to catch up, but he was still far behind the leaders. He also had some problems, like going off the track and getting some damage to his car.
Later in the race, Perez was passed by other drivers with fresher tires, which made it harder for him to keep up. He struggled with grip and pace, especially towards the end of his first stint on the hard tires.
Red Bull had a tough weekend overall at Imola, even though Max Verstappen won the race. Perez mentioned that they had trouble finding the right setup during practice. He also said that McLaren and Ferrari have improved and will be tough competition at the next race in Monaco.
