During an official visit to Italy, Thavisin attended the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to discuss the Thai Grand Prix project with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and other important people.
The Thai government is supporting the idea of having a Grand Prix in Thailand. Thavisin has talked to Red Bull to see if they are interested in joining the project.
Thavisin wants to organize a street race in Bangkok. He hopes the race can be held in either 2027 or 2028.
After his visit, Thavisin shared on social media that he believes the Grand Prix will help Thailand get more attention from the world.
He wrote: “The Thai Government wants to bring F1 racing to Thailand soon. I visited the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari and talked with Formula One Group executives. This is part of our plan to make Thailand known internationally.”
F1 is focusing on having more races in Asia. Domenicali supports the idea of having a race in Bangkok. He visited Thailand in April to discuss this with Thavisin.
However, if new races like the one in Thailand are added, F1 might have to remove some current races. There are doubts about the future of the race in Imola.
Domenicali said in a recent call with Wall Street analysts that F1 doesn’t want to have too many races. He also mentioned that tough decisions might have to be made soon because Imola’s contract ends next year.
“We are getting interest from many countries for F1. This is good for F1’s growth. But it also means we have to decide which races to keep on the calendar,” he said.
