Perez had a tough weekend in Italy, losing his second place in the championship to Charles Leclerc. The Red Bull team struggled with their car setup throughout the weekend.
Perez hasn’t outpaced his teammate, Max Verstappen, all season. In Imola, he didn’t make it to the final qualifying session for the first time this year. In the race, he finished eighth, over 50 seconds behind Verstappen.
But Red Bull’s team boss, Christian Horner, isn’t too worried. He sees Perez’s performance in Imola as just a temporary setback. Horner explained that their calculations before the race suggested that Perez could finish around seventh if everything went smoothly, which it did, except for a moment when Perez went off track and lost a few seconds.
Perez’s contract with Red Bull for the 2025 season is still uncertain. Horner acknowledged that the timing of Perez’s bad race was unfortunate considering his contract situation. However, Horner emphasized that the team is considering all their options and will make decisions when the time is right.
Regarding Perez’s contract negotiations, Horner said that Perez is easy to work with, but finalizing a new contract isn’t as simple as just signing a paper. It involves discussions and agreements on terms that suit both parties.
