The FIA wants to make more things part of the cost cap from 2026, aiming for about $220 million.
At first, the FIA suggested including HR stuff like maternity/paternity leave and staff parties, but the teams didn’t like that.
Now, the FIA said maternity/paternity leave won’t be part of the final plan. Red Bull’s boss, Horner, thinks the cost cap should focus on things that make the car perform better, not on employee matters.
Horner said they need to balance what’s included and what’s not in the cost cap.
He thinks it’s not fair if the changes affect the employees too much.
He gave an example, saying, “Does a Christmas party make the car go faster? If it’s included, then teams might want a front wing instead of a party.”
But he joked that his technical director prefers front wings over parties.
The discussion about the cost cap has been productive, he added.
Sauber’s Alunni Bravi thinks they should consider the cost of living in different countries where the teams are based.
He said life is more expensive in Switzerland, where his team is, compared to the UK or Italy.
So, they should try to make things fair for all teams, considering the cost of living, he suggested.
