During the Monaco Grand Prix, Perez struggled with his car’s speed. He qualified in 18th place but moved up after Haas cars were excluded. Unfortunately, his race ended on the first lap due to a crash with Kevin Magnussen.
Some people wondered if Red Bull should find a new teammate for Max Verstappen next year since Perez hasn’t been performing well lately. But sources close to Red Bull say they believe Perez is the best option available right now.
Red Bull doesn’t seem interested in promoting Yuki Tsunoda from RB, and they’ve told Carlos Sainz he’s not a candidate either. So, it looks like they’re sticking with Perez.
Although Perez sometimes can’t match Verstappen’s speed, he does well on good weekends. He also doesn’t cause problems within the team and creates a comfortable atmosphere for his teammates.
Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, acknowledged Perez’s tough weekend in Monaco. He emphasized the importance of both cars scoring points for the team’s championship hopes.
Horner mentioned Perez’s strong performances earlier in the season and hopes they can regain that form.
Regarding Perez’s future with the team, Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, suggested they should have a decision by the Spanish Grand Prix.
Marko didn’t confirm Perez’s position but hinted that he’s in a good place for the seat. Once Perez’s future is clear, it will affect other drivers in the market, like Sainz.
Sainz has options between Sauber and Williams. Williams seems more competitive in the short term, but Sauber offers the prestige of a works team and potential benefits from Audi’s investment in F1.
