Alpine had its best qualifying in Monaco. Gasly and Ocon qualified 10th and 11th. It’s hard to overtake in Monaco.
Sainz got a puncture at the start, moving Gasly and Ocon up. But Ocon collided with Gasly. Ocon’s car got damaged and he had to stop racing.
Gasly’s tire got punctured, but he kept racing after the red flag. He got new tires and finished the race, earning his first point this season.
Gasly was surprised by the collision with Ocon. He said it was unnecessary, especially between teammates. They had a strategy, but it didn’t work out.
He said, “We definitely need to speak because we can’t afford [it] – especially in a season like that.”
Gasly said Ocon risked ruining Alpine’s race by being aggressive. They almost crashed into the wall.
Gasly thinks Ocon should change. He said, “You just know what do to and what not to do – even more with your team-mate.”
Ocon took the blame for the crash on Twitter. He said, “Today’s incident was my fault, the gap was too small in the end and I apologise to the team on this one.”
