Daniel Ricciardo has had a tough start to the 2024 racing season. He only earned points by finishing fourth in the Miami Grand Prix sprint race. Right now, he’s behind his Red Bull Racing teammate Yuki Tsunoda by 14 points. Some people are saying Ricciardo might lose his seat to reserve driver Liam Lawson.
Liam Lawson filled in for Ricciardo in five races when Ricciardo hurt his hand in a crash at Zandvoort. Before the Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull CEO Peter Bayer said he supports Ricciardo, but Ricciardo says he hasn’t been thinking too much about his contract.
Ricciardo admitted he’s not happy about the gaps between him and Tsunoda. He wants to perform better consistently. Even though the team supports him, he finds it challenging this year to keep up the good performance every week. He’s more focused on doing better than on thinking about the future.
In the Monaco Grand Prix, Ricciardo finished 12th, which matched his qualifying result. But he lost positions to both Aston Martins at the start. He’s frustrated that he’s not making it into Q3 often like his teammate Tsunoda. He hopes to find improvements from the car to help him perform better on Saturdays.
Ricciardo said he felt better going into the Monaco qualifying session compared to two years ago when he was with McLaren. But despite feeling better, the result wasn’t much improved. He wants to figure out what he’s missing and how the car can help him perform better.
He finds it frustrating that he knows he can do better but it’s not happening consistently. He wants to understand why he’s not consistently performing well enough to be in contention for Q3 every week.
