Red Bull hasn’t been doing so well in the last few F1 races. Max Verstappen won the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, but only after a tough battle with Lando Norris.
People have been talking about Red Bull’s problems with how their car handles bumps on the track. But James Allison from Mercedes thinks it might be more complicated.
He thinks the big upgrade Red Bull brought to the Imola race, like a new floor and front wing, might not have helped them as much as they hoped. That could be why they’re having a hard time.
Allison said at the Canadian Grand Prix, “It looks as if their upgrade was a downgrade.” He added, “That makes life hard because when you don’t trust your tools, you waste a lot of time.”
When asked if Mercedes is happy to see Red Bull struggle, Allison said, “Everyone loves other people’s problems in this game.”
Mercedes has also made some upgrades to its car for the Canadian Grand Prix, including changes to the front suspension. They hope these changes will help the car perform better in both fast and slow corners.
Allison thinks they’ve made progress with their car, but he’s not getting too excited just yet. He said, “We’re doing better than we were a few races ago. Hopefully, we’ll keep improving.”
He added, “At the start of the year, we were doing really badly. Now, we’re closer to the front. A bit more improvement, and we’ll be right in the mix.”
