During the race, Norris passed both Max Verstappen and George Russell to take the lead. He was driving faster than them, trying to make his lead bigger.
But then, there was a safety car because Logan Sargeant crashed. Norris says he had enough time to pit and get new tires. But instead, he stayed out for another lap, and this put him behind Verstappen and Russell.
Norris said, “We should have won the race today, but we didn’t. It’s frustrating. We had the speed to win, but we made a mistake as a team. It’s something we’ll talk about later.”
He also said, “I had enough time to pit, but we didn’t pit.”
Later, when Norris was still on the track with wet tires, the team decided to keep him out for two more laps before changing to dry tires. This made it hard for him to catch up with Verstappen and Russell.
Verstappen joked that this was payback for a previous race where Norris benefited from a safety car. He said sometimes things work for you, sometimes they don’t, but it’s all part of racing.
Verstappen added, “You try to stay calm and talk to your team about what’s happening on the track. I think we made the right decisions today.”
