Due to Max Verstappen’s win in Montreal and both Ferrari drivers retiring, Red Bull increased its lead in the constructors’ championship to 49 points over Ferrari. However, Sergio Perez had a tough weekend. He didn’t do well in qualifying and struggled during the race. He crashed and had to retire on lap 51. In the last three races, he only scored four points, which is less than 10 other drivers.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner said, “It was a terrible weekend for Checo, and we had some damage. He needs to do better in Barcelona. Ferrari didn’t get any points, so we got lucky, but we need both cars to score points. Checo needs to get back to his early season form.”

Horner believes Perez can bounce back. He said, “Perez has shown before that he can recover from tough times. He’s a tough racer, and it hurts him when things don’t go well. He’ll want to show everyone what he’s capable of.”

Perez is now fifth in the drivers’ standings. He said the race was difficult because it was hard to pass on the wet track. He added, “It’s been a tough couple of weeks, but we’ll regroup and learn from it. We had a problem in qualifying, but we’ll work on that. There’s still a long way to go in the season.”

Perez admitted his mistake in the crash, saying, “That was my fault. I hit a wet part of the track at Turn 6, and I couldn’t stop the car. It was completely wet, and I couldn’t brake in time. It was unfortunate.”
