Red Bull has been struggling with handling issues over bumps and kerbs in recent races like Miami, Imola, Monaco, and Canada. These problems seem to have carried over from their previous cars, and the team hasn’t solved them yet.
During these races, other teams capitalized on Red Bull’s difficulties and made improvements of their own. For instance, Lando Norris won his first race in Miami, and Charles Leclerc triumphed in Monaco, which was a special victory for him.
Looking ahead to upcoming races at tracks like Barcelona, the Red Bull Ring, and Silverstone, Ferrari’s Leclerc believes Red Bull will perform much better. These circuits are better suited for Red Bull’s RB20 car.
“I think Red Bull will show their strength more on tracks like Barcelona,” Leclerc said after the Canadian Grand Prix.
“But let’s wait and see. I think the competition behind Red Bull will be close too.”
George Russell, who had a strong showing in Montreal with Mercedes, pointed out that despite Red Bull’s recent struggles, Max Verstappen still managed to win in Imola and Canada. This indicates that Red Bull might become even stronger during the upcoming European races.
“Red Bull has had some difficulties in the past few races, but they still managed to win two out of three,” Russell noted.
“So, I expect them to improve when we return to the European circuits. Our performance this weekend in Montreal was expected because our data from the factory showed significant upgrades.”
“Barcelona will be interesting for everyone, but I’m confident we can compete,” Russell added.
Lando Norris from McLaren, who battled Russell for second place in the recent race, acknowledged that Mercedes will now be a strong contender.
“If Mercedes becomes faster in the upcoming races and joins the fight with Ferrari, Red Bull, and us, it will make racing more exciting and challenging,” Norris commented.
“It will be stressful for us with eight cars competing at the front, but it’s exciting for us and for the fans watching.”
While Red Bull faces challenges, they are expected to bounce back on traditional tracks. Meanwhile, Mercedes is gearing up to join the intense competition among the top teams in the upcoming races.
