Hyundai has initiated a recall for all Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 electric vehicles (EVs) sold in Australia, addressing a global concern regarding a defective Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). This recall encompasses every Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 vehicle sold in Australia and aims to rectify an issue that could lead to power loss.
According to Hyundai’s recall notice, the software glitch within the Integrated Charging Control Unit may hinder the proper charging of the auxiliary 12 Volt battery, resulting in battery drainage and potential loss of motive power. The manufacturer emphasizes that such a power loss while driving could significantly increase the risk of accidents, potentially endangering vehicle occupants and other road users.
Hyundai Australia has previously conducted a service campaign to address this issue, offering an ICCU software update and replacement if deemed necessary. This recall also extends to other electric vehicles under the Hyundai Motor Group, including the related Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60. It’s important to note that this recall is distinct from a recent one issued for faulty driveshafts in the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models, which could break and lead to power loss. That recall involved a total of 118 vehicles.
Affected owners of the 3521 vehicles, spanning model years 2021 to 2024, are advised to promptly schedule an appointment with a Hyundai dealership to have the necessary software updates performed at no cost.
