Kia has introduced a new electric car called EV3. It’s a small crossover, and Kia showed a concept version of it in October 2023. The car hasn’t changed much since then. It looks futuristic outside and has lots of tech inside.
The EV3 is like a smaller version of Kia’s three-row EV9. It doesn’t have a traditional grille at the front, and it has tall headlights and thin LED daytime running lights. It’s about 169 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 61 inches tall. That makes it a bit smaller than the Seltos, a gas-powered Kia, and much smaller than the EV9.
One big change from the concept version is that the rear doors now open like regular car doors. Inside, the layout is similar to the concept. There’s a round steering wheel and a big horizontal screen that shows the instruments, climate controls, and infotainment. Kia wanted the inside to feel cozy, like a living room, so they added a folding table in the center console.
The EV3 has two battery options: a smaller one and a bigger one. Both have an electric motor that makes 201 horsepower and 209 pound-feet of torque. Kia says the EV3 can go from 0 to 62 mph in 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 105 mph. It uses the same platform as other Kia and Hyundai electric cars, so it could have all-wheel drive, but Kia hasn’t said anything about that yet.
The bigger battery can give the EV3 a range of up to 372 miles, but that’s using a test that’s known for giving high numbers. We don’t know the range using a different test yet. The EV3 can charge from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes with a fast charger, but only the bigger battery can charge that fast.
The EV3 is packed with technology. It has a feature that lets you use its battery to power other things, like laptops or even a small fridge. The infotainment system has streaming and games, and it has Kia’s AI Assistant.
The EV3 will go on sale in South Korea in July 2024 and later in Europe. Kia hasn’t said if it will come to the United States yet. They hope so, but nothing’s confirmed.
