Ferrari, the iconic Italian luxury carmaker, is gearing up to reveal its first electric car in late 2025. While details about the car’s size, shape, and performance remain under wraps, CEO Benedetto Vigna has revealed an intriguing aspect: the Ferrari EV will not be silent.
In an interview with CNBC, Vigna disclosed that Ferrari is diligently crafting “sound signatures” for the electric vehicle, aiming to evoke emotions akin to those stirred by traditional combustion engines.
This approach suggests that Ferrari is embracing the concept of synthetic exhaust notes, either replicating familiar engine sounds or exploring innovative sound designs.
In adopting artificial sound signatures, Ferrari joins unexpected companions such as Hyundai and Dodge, who believe that electric performance cars should retain the auditory thrill of internal combustion engines.
Dodge’s upcoming Charger Daytona, featuring the “Fratzonic chambered exhaust” system, and Hyundai’s “N e-shift” technology in the Ioniq 5 N, both prioritize replicating the immersive driving experience of traditional engines through synthesized sounds.
Ferrari’s interpretation of “sound signatures” could range from aggressive V-8-like tones, akin to Dodge’s approach, to more subtle whirring noises integrated into specific performance modes. Regardless of the implementation, enthusiasts eagerly anticipate experiencing the distinctive sound of an electric Ferrari when the car debuts later in 2025.
