Mercedes-Benz Unveils Flexible New Wallbox Solution for American Consumers

Mercedes-Benz has introduced its latest offering for American consumers: the new wall box charger, a solution previously available in Europe. This introduction caters to US-based owners of EQB, EQE, EQS, and plug-in hybrid vehicles, providing them with a convenient home charging option.

Highlighting the significance of home charging, the German automaker notes that over 90% of charging activities occur at private residences. The Mercedes Wallbox boasts an electricity delivery of 11.5 kW on a 240-volt split-phase circuit, making it approximately eight times faster than conventional household outlets.

Featuring a practical 23-foot charging cable, the wall box accommodates various parking scenarios, including multi-car garages, narrow driveways, and carports. Compatible with all Mercedes EVs, PHEVs, and other EVs utilizing the SAE J1772 inlet, it unfortunately excludes Tesla owners.

Equipped with numerous functions and features, owners can connect their Mercedes-Benz Wallbox to the internet for added convenience. This connectivity enables remote operation via the Mercedes Me smartphone app, allowing users to monitor charging sessions, access charging history, and initiate or terminate sessions remotely.

Continual enhancements through over-the-air updates promise added functionalities over time. Through the app, users can estimate charging costs based on energy consumption and rates and even control access to the wall box by locking or unlocking it remotely. LED indicators on the wall box provide real-time charging status updates to the owner.

Designed to complement the modern aesthetics and functionality of contemporary EVs, the wall box showcases the signature Mercedes-Benz motif, reminiscent of the brand’s iconic design elements.

Interested customers can procure the wall box through authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships, with installation services provided by certified electricians. Purchasers of MY2023 EQE or EQS models in the first quarter of 2024 qualify for a complimentary wall box.

Mercedes-Benz aims to expand its charging infrastructure across the nation, collaborating with other automakers to establish a competitive charging network akin to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Moreover, by adopting the Tesla NACS connector, Mercedes owners can access Superchargers for EV charging convenience.
