Jones, who is 27 years old, got hurt in a car crash at Talladega Superspeedway last month. He hurt his lower back, fracturing a vertebra.
During the race, Jones was driving with other Toyota drivers. When they were close to finishing, there was a crash. Another car hit Jones’ car from behind, and he smashed into the wall. A few other Toyota cars got caught up in the crash too.
Jones felt pain in his back right away and told his team. Even though he went to the medical center at the race, he had to go to the hospital later for more checks. They let him leave that night.
The crash was really strong, and it hurt Jones’ back a lot. Because of that, he couldn’t race in the Dover event. Another driver, Corey Heim, took his place and finished in 25th place. It was Heim’s first time racing in the NASCAR Cup Series.
The team said Jones is fine to race again, but they want to be extra careful. So, they decided he should rest for another race. Corey Heim will drive Jones’ car at the Kansas Speedway race.
Jones will go to Kansas to support Heim and his team. He will start racing again at Darlington in the next race. Jones has won twice at Darlington before, so he’s excited to get back on the track.
Jones thanked his team and fans on social media. He said he supports his team’s decision to give him more time to rest. He’s looking forward to racing again soon.
After the Talladega crash, Jones was in 20th place in the points standings. But missing the Dover race dropped him down to 23rd place.
