The eight-time world champion had a tough time at the French Grand Prix before Saturday’s shorter 13-lap race.
He didn’t do well in the earlier qualifying sessions, so he had to compete in Q1, the first part of qualifying. Unfortunately, he didn’t perform well in Q1 either and had to start the race from the 13th position.
Despite this, he managed to move up to fifth place right after the race started. Eventually, he finished second after improving the settings on his motorcycle.
Talking about his performance in qualifying, Marquez said, “I’m angry with myself because I wasn’t sure about my performance in Q1.”
During qualifying, he had a scary moment when he almost crashed while following another rider closely. He felt uncomfortable riding behind someone else, which made it difficult for him to do well in qualifying.
He said, “When I was behind somebody on this bike, I felt uncomfortable.” He almost crashed at Turn 2 but thankfully, there was a safety area that prevented a serious accident.
In the sprint race, Marquez made an impressive move from 13th to fifth place in the first few corners. He then managed to overtake another rider for fourth place.
He said that while his start was good, he was even happier with his pace during the race. He rode consistently and smoothly, which he hadn’t been able to do during the weekend’s earlier sessions.
Marquez explained that they made some adjustments to his motorcycle based on what other Ducati riders were doing. These adjustments helped him ride more smoothly and improve his performance.
