At their home race in Mugello, Aprilia had five RS-GPs racing. This includes their two factory team riders, the Trackhouse Racing duo, and wildcard rider Lorenzo Savadori.

Vinales was the fastest among them during the first practice of the Mugello weekend. He set a time of 1 minute and 46.140 seconds using a new medium rear tire towards the end of the session.

He was followed by Quartararo on the factory Yamaha, with Franco Morbidelli leading the Ducati riders on his Pramac-run GP24 bike.

At the start, Marc Marquez on his Gresini Ducati was the quickest. He posted a time of 1 minute and 47.002 seconds.

Yamaha’s Alex Rins then took the lead with a time of 1 minute and 46.719 seconds. But Marquez reclaimed the top spot shortly after.

Marquez held the lead for about 20 minutes until Tech3 GasGas rookie Pedro Acosta, with new medium rear tire, set a time of 1 minute and 46.459 seconds.

Five minutes before the session ended, Vinales set the fastest time again with 1 minute and 46.140 seconds, securing the top spot.

Quartararo managed to secure the second spot with a late time of 1 minute and 46.328 seconds.
