Ducati had planned to announce their decision for the 2025 factory team seat at the Italian Grand Prix, but earlier this week, they said they wouldn’t.
Recent reports from Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that Jorge Martin would be promoted to the factory team seat for 2025.
For some time, the competition for this seat was between Martin and Marquez. Martin, who is leading the championship, seemed like the top choice. But Marquez’s strong performance with Gresini made Ducati’s decision difficult.
Martin wanted the factory team seat, but Marquez’s impressive racing and popularity made Ducati unsure about their decision.
Now, with Martin close to signing with the factory team, Ducati wants Marquez to join Pramac with a factory bike for 2025.
However, Marquez has rejected this idea. He said in an interview with DAZN, “Pramac is a good team, but it’s not for me. I want the latest version of the motorcycle, preferably with an official team. With an official team, you get more support.”
Marquez had shown some openness to joining Pramac earlier, as long as he got a factory bike.
There are rumors that Marquez has received an offer from the Pierer Mobility Group (KTM/GasGas) for 2025. But it’s unclear if Marquez, a six-time MotoGP world champion, would leave Ducati to adapt to a new bike again.
