At Mugello, Bastianini had a fantastic race in front of his fans. He made two important passes to secure a 1-2 finish for Ducati.
He first overtook Marc Marquez with two laps to go, then surprised championship leader Jorge Martin with a great move on the final lap.
This was his first podium since April, and it came during a tough week where it was confirmed he would lose his Ducati seat.
Bastianini said he rode better than ever, especially after Marquez briefly took his podium spot. He was determined to reclaim it.
His contract with Ducati ends this year, and his future is uncertain. He might join Aprilia if he doesn’t find a spot in another Ducati team.
When asked about his performance, Bastianini said he wants to focus on the present and enjoy the moment.
Meanwhile, Bagnaia won the race with a brilliant start, inspired by Jack Miller’s start last year. He aimed to be on the inside line at the second corner and succeeded, despite a close call with Maverick Vinales.
Bagnaia’s strategy paid off, and he maintained his lead till the end, despite Martin’s pressure in the final laps.
