In the Mugello race, Marquez was battling hard with Bastianini for third place. But Bastianini managed to reclaim third position from Marquez, pushing him back to fourth. Marquez couldn’t catch up to the leaders and finished outside the podium.
This ended his streak of podium finishes for the year and increased the gap between him and championship leader Martin.
Marquez admitted that he used up too much of his tires trying to overtake Bastianini, leaving him with little energy for the final laps. He praised Bastianini’s performance and acknowledged that his tire was in better condition for the final push.
He also mentioned receiving warnings while cornering, which made him cautious and settle for fourth place behind the top three riders.
Marquez, known as one of the most successful MotoGP riders, found it relatively easy to accept his fourth-place finish given his past experiences of both winning and struggling in races.
He acknowledged that in recent years, he has faced more challenges than victories, so he’s content with fourth place in Mugello.
