On June 5th, Ducati made it official: they signed Marquez, a world champion, for two years. This came after a series of events that changed their plans. Initially, Ducati wanted to promote Jorge Martin to their factory team. But Marquez said no to racing for Pramac with a works bike. Ducati didn’t want to lose Marquez, so they let Martin go to Aprilia.
Dall’Igna, Ducati’s head, spoke to Sky Sports Italy after the announcement. He said Marquez and Bagnaia, the reigning double MotoGP world champion, make the strongest team Ducati has ever had. He believes having both of them increases their chances of winning.
Dall’Igna said, “It was a tough decision, but now we are convinced that we have the best team in Ducati’s history.” He added, “Our goal is to win the world championship, and having Marquez and Bagnaia gives us a better chance.”
Ducati wanted to keep both Martin and Marquez for 2025. But with Marquez joining the factory team, tensions could rise between him and Bagnaia. They’ve already had conflicts on the track in 2024. Dall’Igna isn’t worried about bike development, but he’s concerned about team dynamics.
He said, “We have our philosophy, and we consider all riders for bike development. Marquez is already helping us this year.” He added, “But I am concerned about team dynamics. The atmosphere in the Ducati team is wonderful, and we want to keep it that way.”
