Yamaha’s Alex Rins has been sidelined for the remainder of the British Grand Prix after a late crash during Friday’s second practice session. This latest setback comes just after his return from injury, having missed the previous German Grand Prix.
Rins’ fall at Silverstone saw him land in the gravel at Turn 6, with the Spaniard appearing to signal pain in his right hand, potentially indicating a re-aggravation of previous injuries.
Yamaha later confirmed that Rins is experiencing pain and will prioritize recovery over competing. The 29-year-old will undergo further assessments to determine his fitness for the Austrian Grand Prix.
His spot in the Yamaha team will be filled by World Superbike rider Remy Gardner, who will now compete for manufacturer points. Alex Rins has been forced to withdraw from the British Grand Prix due to persistent pain and the risk of further injury.
The Yamaha rider suffered multiple fractures in a severe crash at the Dutch GP, requiring immediate surgery. Despite undergoing two operations and making progress, Rins experienced increased pain during Friday’s practice at Silverstone, prompting his decision to sit out the remainder of the weekend.
The team and the rider are disappointed as Silverstone is a track Rins enjoys and where he had hoped to make a strong comeback. However, the priority remains his health and recovery, with the target set on returning to competition at the Austrian GP.
