In a move that many saw coming, Calvin Teague and Brandon Johnson, who work on the pit crew for Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 5 Chevrolet driven by Kyle Larson, won’t be joining their team for the next two races. The reason? During Sunday’s race, a wheel on Larson’s car came loose while the race was slowed down. That’s a big no-no in NASCAR.

There were also some other penalties dished out, mostly concerning safety issues.

Zachary Yager, a crew member for RFK Racing’s No. 17 Ford team, won’t be at this weekend’s race in Talladega. Why? Because he was caught wearing a glove that wasn’t approved for safety.

Then there’s Jacob Holmes from Joe Gibbs Racing and Doug Warrick from Richard Childress Racing. They’re both in the doghouse too, suspended from the Talladega race for wearing helmets that weren’t given the thumbs-up for use on pit road.

And remember Joey Logano? Earlier this season at Atlanta, he got a slap on the wrist for wearing a glove that wasn’t up to snuff. He had to give up his second-place starting spot and fork over $10,000.

Over in the Xfinity Series, Brandon Harder from JR Motorsports is out for the Talladega race because of an issue with a safety apron. Meanwhile, his crew chief, Patrick Donahue, got hit with a $5,000 fine because they found a lug nut not doing its job properly after Saturday’s race.

In the Truck Series, Chris Carrier, a crew chief for the No. 75 team, got the boot and a $5,000 fine because his truck didn’t have its lug nuts on tight after Friday night’s race.

And finally, there’s Nicholas Covey. He works in the Cup Series with RCR, but he’s been put on the sidelines indefinitely. Why? He messed up with NASCAR’s substance abuse policy, and that’s a big deal.
