Corey LaJoie drives the No. 7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports. At Talladega, he was the eighth car back in the outside line.
During the race, Michael McDowell, who was leading, crashed after a failed move to block for the win. This caused chaos on the track.
LaJoie tried to avoid the crash but got caught in it when other cars tangled. His car was pushed up into the wreck by Carson Hocevar and Ryan Preece.
LaJoie’s car got stuck between the cars of Josh Berry and Preece. Berry’s car lifted both cars off the ground, and LaJoie’s car flipped upside down. It was stuck between the other cars for a moment.
Even though LaJoie’s car was on its side, it kept moving forward against the wall because of Hocevar’s car. They crossed the finish line together, but LaJoie’s car was still on its side. The race officials had to stop the race because of the crash. LaJoie finished in 18th place.
After the race, LaJoie’s car finally came to a stop on its wheels. It was the first time a car flipped in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. Luckily, LaJoie was not hurt.
LaJoie talked about the crash, saying, “I tried to avoid the crash by aiming for the No. 38 car [Gilliland], but I got hit from behind. My car flipped over, and I felt a lot of sparks. My back is a bit sore, but I’m mostly disappointed that we couldn’t have a good race.”
