Michael McDowell is likely going to drive for Spire Motorsports next season, according to several sources. On Wednesday, Spire confirmed that McDowell signed a contract to drive their No. 71 Chevrolet, alongside Corey LaJoie and Carson Hocevar.

McDowell said, “This is a new chapter for my family and me, and we’re incredibly thankful for the opportunity that’s in front of us. It’s going to take some hard work, but I feel like everything is in place for us to be successful as a race team — to win races and contend for championships.”

He added, “Failure is not an option, and that’s the mindset that it will take to achieve our goals.”

McDowell has a lot of experience in NASCAR, with 94 Xfinity starts, two poles, and one win. He’s also won four ARCA Menards Series races.

Spire Motorsports president Doug Duchardt said, “Michael McDowell is a proven winner and brings a NASCAR Playoff pedigree. His experience and enthusiasm are a perfect fit for Spire Motorsports.”

Spire Motorsports plans to continue supporting Zane Smith and Stephan Doran for the No. 71 team in 2024. They also expressed their commitment to their collaboration with Trackhouse Racing.

McDowell has been with Front Row Motorsports since 2018 and has won two Cup races with them. Despite strong performances in qualifying this season, he has faced challenges in finishing races well.

Bob Jenkins, owner of Front Row Motorsports, thanked McDowell for his contributions to the team, highlighting his Daytona 500 victory and other achievements.

Front Row Motorsports currently fields two full-time Cup teams and a full-time Truck Series entry.
