By the third part of the Coca-Cola 600 race, Keselowski’s No. 6 RFK Racing Ford was one of the fastest cars. He was in second place behind Christopher Bell when the race was stopped because of severe weather after completing 249 of 400 laps.

NASCAR and track officials tried for almost two hours to dry the track, but they decided to call it official when it seemed like they couldn’t restart the race until after 1 a.m. ET on Monday.

Keselowski ended up with what he called a “pretty disappointing” second-place finish.

“I felt like we had a car to win the race,” he said. “We caught up to (Bell) twice but didn’t get the chance to finish the race. It slipped through our fingers there.

“I would have liked to have more laps and finish the Coke 600. It felt more like we ran the Coke 350 today. But overall, I’m really happy with how we did.

“The car was really fast, and our pit stops were great. We just didn’t get to finish it. I’m disappointed for our team and everyone, but we can’t control the weather.”

Even though Keselowski finished second, he moved up two spots in the series standings to ninth, with Denny Hamlin as the new leader.

Both Keselowski and his teammate Chris Buescher have been close to winning races in recent weeks, with Keselowski winning two weeks ago in Darlington, S.C. Sunday night seemed like another chance for Keselowski to win.

“I think we could have done better,” Keselowski said. “It’s good to be fast, but you want to win races. Coming in second hurts, but it shows we had the potential to win. If it doesn’t hurt, you’re in the wrong business.

“We need to work on our performance on short tracks and road courses, but we’re doing well on mile-and-a-half tracks right now.”
